Scientists call it the gut microbiome. Whirly, the wheel-headed whirler, is PeekaLab’s version of one of these tiny tummy residents.

Some microbes are amazing movers! Many beat tiny hairs called cilia to swim, and rotifers spin whole crowns of them so fast they look like turning wheels. That real spinning trick is exactly how Whirly pulls snacks into its mouth. Scientists study these little movers to build tiny robots for medicine!

Most of them are great for you! Friendly gut microbes help break down food your body cannot digest alone, train your body’s defence team, and even make vitamins. Eating fruits, veggies and yoghurt keeps them happy. Think of Whirly as one of the good guys on your team.

Whirly is a PeekaLab creature inspired by a rotifer — the "wheel animalcule" whose spinning crown pulls food in like twin fans. Head full of spinning wheels and a see-through tummy — never dizzy, always snacking.
