About Sheldon

What does the large intestine do?

The large intestine is your body’s recycling centre. It takes the leftovers from digestion, soaks the water back into your body so nothing is wasted, and rolls what remains into poop. It is the slow, calm lane of digestion — which suits an unhurried shell-rider like Sheldon perfectly.

Where does the water in my food and drinks go?

A lot of it gets collected by the large intestine! As leftovers travel through, the large intestine absorbs the water back into your blood so your body can reuse it for sweat, tears and staying cool. Sheldon appreciates the moisture — a snail never says no to a nice damp neighbourhood.

Why is it called the large intestine if it is shorter?

Funny but true: the large intestine is much shorter than the small intestine — only about 1.5 metres — but it is WIDER, like a bigger pipe. That is what "large" means here. Plenty of headroom for Sheldon’s shell, which is really all a snail asks of a home.
