Glimmer

Gut bacteria are tiny living helpers — trillions of them — that live mostly in your large intestine. The friendly kinds finish digesting food your body cannot break down alone, make vitamins like vitamin K, and leave less room for troublemakers. Glimmer is PeekaLab’s glowing version of these little helpers.

When your gut helpers munch on foods like beans, broccoli and whole grains, they release tiny bubbles of gas — that is just them working! The bubbles have to go somewhere, which is why everybody toots. It is completely normal and actually a sign of a healthy tummy. Glimmer finds it hilarious.

Friendly gut microbes love fibre — fruits, vegetables, oats, beans and whole grains — plus yoghurt with live cultures. Feed them well and they repay you with better digestion and a stronger defence team. Glimmer’s menu request: more crunchy veggies, and dinner by lantern-light, please!

Glimmer is a PeekaLab creature inspired by bioluminescent microbes — real sea sparkle, the plankton that makes waves glow at night. Carries its own night-light everywhere and is definitely not scared of the dark.

Glimmer lives near the Large Intestine. Some real microbes make their own light — it is called bioluminescence, and it is what makes ocean waves sparkle blue at night!

Open PeekaLab and move your cursor over the scan area. When you get close, Glimmer will glow and reveal itself. Look for faint pulsing rings — that's a clue something is hiding there!

Glimmer is a fun character inspired by real biology! The creature design and organ facts are based on real microorganisms and anatomy, but Glimmer itself is a fictional, friendly version for kids to enjoy.
